Brain Injury Australia’s Executive Officer Nick Rushworth joins Victorian Magistrate Anne Goldsbrough and Karenza Louis-Smith, CEO of the Australian Community Support Organisation, in a panel discussion on imprisonment and mental health at Melbourne’s Wheeler Centre on Thursday 23rd February, at 11 a.m.
As many as 80 per cent of Australia’s adult prisoners report brain injury. Advocacy for their unmet needs and policy reform is just one of Brain Injury Australia’s multi-year public education campaigns.
This free, public event, organised by the Monash University and The Imprisonment Observatory, aims to generate policy ideas for reducing the “over-representation of individuals with mental illness, intellectual disabilities or cognitive impairments in the criminal justice system and in our prisons.” Download the event flyer here.
